Mahavitaran files FIRs against 71 consumers for power theft

71 cases of power theft were detected in Congress Nagar Division and 20 cases in Butibori Division. 77 cases of power theft were unearthed in Nagpur Rural with maximum 43 cases being detected in Saoner Division. Mahavitaran was put to loss to the tune of Rs 18.11 lakh in Congress Nagar Division and Rs 8.77 lakh in Butibori. Nagpur: In the drive to curb power thefts and tampering with meters, Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) has detected 837 cases of meter tampering. Similarly, FIRs have been filed by Mahavitaran against 50 consumers for power theft.

Nagpur: In the drive to curb power thefts and tampering with meters, Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) has detected 837 cases of meter tampering. Police complaints have been foiled against 21 erring consumers. Similarly, FIRs have been filed by Mahavitaran against 50 consumers for power theft. During the period of 10 months from April 2018 to January 2019, 98 cases of meter tampering were unearthed in Nagpur city including 83 cases in Congress Nagar Division and 35 cases in Butibori Division. Mahavitaran was put to loss to the tune of Rs 18.11 lakh in Congress Nagar Division and Rs 8.77 lakh in Butibori. However, MSEDCL succeeded in recovering a revenue of Rs 24 lakh towards power bill dues in both the Divisions. Police complaints were lodged against six consumers. In Nagpur Rural, maximum cases – 293 – were detected in Mauda Division followed by 252 in Saoner. 76 cases were unearthed in Umred while 118 cases were busted in Katol Division. Mahavitaran suffered loss of Rs 1.57 crore in Rural area. But the MSEDCL succeeded in recovering revenue of Rs 1.21 crore from consumers. Offences under Section 126 of Indian Electricity Act were registered against 15 consumers. Mahavitarn noticed that use of power by illegal means has come down during the said period. 496 power connections were checked in Nagpur city while 1085 connections were inspected in rural parts. 71 cases of power theft were detected in Congress Nagar Division and 20 cases in Butibori Division. The erring consumers pilfered 1,00,168 units in Congress Nagar and Rs 9.47 lakh were recovered from these culprits. 77 cases of power theft were unearthed in Nagpur Rural with maximum 43 cases being detected in Saoner Division. 12,017 units of power was pilfered by the power thieves. Mahavitarn recovered Rs 1.75 lakh.
