Nagpur: The detection branch of Nandanvan police on Saturday arrested an MD drug dealer and cricket bookie for thrashing and robbing a police ‘informer’ after a trap went wrong on Monday.Madhu Singhal alias Agrawal (42) was arrested from a lodge in Saoner in a robbery and attempt to murder case. He had allegedly thrashed Ashish Gaiki, who has claimed to be a police informer.Addressing a press conference in the city, zonal DCP Raj Tilak Roushan said, “There are several aspects in the case which need to be verified, including the verification of Gaiki as a police informer.”Gaiki claimed in his report that on Monday, he, along with a policeman, approached Agrawal to buy 100gm of MD drug as a part of anti-narcotics cell’s trap. Agrawal asked them to give Rs2 lakh for the drug but the duo was short of Rs40,000. Gaiki then went to bring the remaining cash.In the meantime, Agrawal received a call from a person and took Gaiki to his office in Wathoda area on the pretext of another work.Agrawal, along with five others, then thrashed Gaiki, who is currently undergoing treatement at Government Medical College and Hospital. Gaiki claimed that he was planning to set Agrawal up.Sources said the call to Agrawal was made by a policeman connected with anti-narcotics cell of the city crime branch.Roushan said, “We will have to investigate the matter thoroughly and if any person is found guilty of having nexus with Agrawal, he will face strict action.”After the incident on Monday, Agrawal was learnt to be in the city for a couple of days until he was hounded by people who helped him thrash Gaiki. Sources said the other accused were demanding money from Agrawal for helping him.Agrawal is also to learnt to have gone to Pench in Madhya Pradesh before being arrested from Saoner.
