Deans too responsible if faculty gives wrong info: MCI

Faculties work in more than one medical college by submitting false information.Practice of ghost faculties is allegedly rampant in private medical colleges. Cases of faculties serving as ghost lecturers were reported from some medical colleges in last two-three years. Now, Deans or HODs may also be suspended if any false declarations are made during MCI inspections. Nagpur: Heads of the departments or deans of medical colleges in country will be held accountable if their teachers submit false or wrong declaration about their qualifications, certifications or standards during college assessments done by Medical Council of India (MCI). Such cases are facilitated by making false declarations at the time of MCI inspection.

Nagpur: Heads of the departments or deans of medical colleges in country will be held accountable if their teachers submit false or wrong declaration about their qualifications, certifications or standards during college assessments done by Medical Council of India (MCI). Until now, only the faculty giving wrong information used to be charged.Recently, MCI introduced an amendment in the Section 7 of the ‘Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002.’ The amended Section 7.23 reads: “Submission of false/wrong information by a medical faculty in the Declaration Form submitted at the time of assessment by Council; shall be treated as misconduct, both by the medical faculty and the Dean/Head of Department counter signing the declaration Form.”MCI regularly conducts assessment of medical colleges across the country. Cases of faculties serving as ghost lecturers were reported from some medical colleges in last two-three years. Such cases are facilitated by making false declarations at the time of MCI inspection. It is also alleged many colleges offer huge money to doctors just to be present on the days of MCI inspection and pose as faculties. The amendment will hold the signing authority also responsible in such cases. Now, Deans or HODs may also be suspended if any false declarations are made during MCI inspections.
