Pre-exam counselling is beneficial, say experts

As exams draw near, almost all universities and boards have come up with pre-examination counselling options for students.According to experts, counselling services are beneficial to students at the time of preparation as well as during the exams to overcome exam-related stress.“The CBSE has been conducting these sessions for the last 21 years. This will ensure prompt response and delivery of student queries,” Ashok Chavan, BEE director, said.

As exams draw near, almost all universities and boards have come up with pre-examination counselling options for students.According to experts, counselling services are beneficial to students at the time of preparation as well as during the exams to overcome exam-related stress.“The CBSE has been conducting these sessions for the last 21 years. This year, 91 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated government and private schools, few psychologists and special educators will participate in tele-counselling and address exam related problems students face,” said Ravi Shukla, a senior teacher at the local Kendriya Vidyalaya. A toll-free number was made available to the students.According to experienced counsellor Manish Patil, the counselling proved beneficial for many students last year. “Last year, I received more than 800 calls and it was a very good experience. This year, because of more awareness, I am getting at least 10 calls a day when the exam is yet to begin,” he said. Patil is working with the state board for the last three years. The state board declared more than 10 numbers of the experts who will help students in any case of confusion, psychological pressure and depression related to exam.For Pune University students, the Board of Examination and Evaluation (BEE) has started faculty-wise special phone lines. “As part of our mission of strengthening the student facilitation centre, special phone lines have been assigned for different faculties. This will ensure prompt response and delivery of student queries,” Ashok Chavan, BEE director, said.
