The growing demand for English-medium education has propelled the growth of these schools in the district.More than 80% of the primary schools that started in the last three years are either offering English or semi-English medium education, even in rural areas.“A total of 44 applications for opening new fully non-granted schools were received since 2015. Of these, 39 applications were to start English and semi-English medium schools,” said a senior official from the divisional education office. These applications include proposals to set up international, central and universal schools.Education department of the Zilla Parishad is the authority to approve setting up of new schools in Nashik district.Once approved, the schools in Nashik city limit come under the Nashik Municipal Corporation education committee.Of the 127 NMC-run schools, 19 have semi-English medium facility. “English medium schools are the need of the hour. Even in Marathi medium schools run by the NMC, we have made it mandatory to run projects to improve English language skills of the students,” said Nitin Upasani, administrative officer of NMC’s education department.Not only private schools, but Zilla Parishad has also launched English medium schools in the district. The ZP has opened 111 new semi-English medium schools since 2014.“The ZP schools across the district are giving special emphasis on providing education in English. Most of the schools are having digital education tools and e-classrooms. All this can't be provided without proper knowledge of English. We have developed proper module of teaching English to our students,” said senior teacher Dattatreya Chaughule.
