Students showcase artworks for worthy cause

The students of Ashoka Universal School, Wadala, Chandsi and Sinnar; Ashoka Global Academy, Arjun Nagar; and Ashoka Global Pre-School displayed their artifacts.

Nashik: Ceramic and pottery designing and paintings increated by students during the academic year were among the fascinating artworks that went on display at the City Centre mall here on Saturday.The two-day exhibition, titled Ashoka Art Fest, has been organised by the students studying in institutions run by the Ashoka Group. Proceeds of the event will go to ‘Sanmati Bal Niketan’, an NGO run by veteran social worker Sindhutai Sapakal.“The expo’s first day was a huge success. Parents and citizens participated enthusiastically for the sake of this benevolent cause,” said a senior official of Ashoka Group.Sculptures and murals for home decoration proved to be the most attractive at the exhibition. These cost-efficient yet durable artifacts were hot picks of buyers.“Our students have worked during the year to create these artworks. Wood art has been made by students of Grade IV onwards. The main attraction is the material used along with wood like nails, threads and binding wire to make the items more decorative. Paintings by our students are spiritually inclined,” said a teacher.There is also a ‘Hobby Ideas’ section, where one can see a wide range of objects ranging from pen stands to greeting cards. Visitors also appreciated the calligraphy stall. The ceramic and pottery section also received enthusiastic response as the visitors got a chance to try out the same first hand.Students had a learning experience when they interacted with veteran social worker Sindhutai Sapakal, who formally inaugurated the festival. “Mai answered various questions based on her life and how she did not give up even in adverse circumstances. She further told us to live to the fullest and not to get deterred by bristles that life throws at us,” said a student of Ashoka College of Education.Chairman of Ashoka Group Ashok Kataria, joint secretary of the school Shrikant Shukla, Astha Kataria and Shweta Modi were present during the inauguration.Sindhutai also launched the Ashoka Junior College’s commerce magazine, Yuvarth. The students of Ashoka Universal School, Wadala, Chandsi and Sinnar; Ashoka Global Academy, Arjun Nagar; and Ashoka Global Pre-School displayed their artifacts. Another highlight of the festival was a unique art fashion show, where the students walked the ramp wearing their own designs and adorning the jewellery crafted by them.The students depicted stories through sand art projected on screen, which received a loud applause from the audience. The art festival will continue on Sunday at the second floor of the mall at Untavadi chowk.
