Motorists, behave yourselves to make city roads safe for all: Police

Motorists are seen overspeeding, cutting lanes, jumping signals, driving wrong side, etc, and all such things lead to accidents. Nashik: Controlling rash and negligent driving is a major challenge for police as most of the accidents occurring in the city are due to these reasons.ACP Ajay Devre of the city traffic branch said, “Negligent driving was the main cause of accidents. It will bring down the rate of accidents. The traffic police have launched a programme named ‘chhota police’, under which school students are sensitised about traffic rules so that in turn they spread the importance of adhering to traffic rules to the elders including their parents,” said a traffic police officer.Senior police officials said the city police had taken up a series of programmes over the past two years to spread awareness about following traffic rules.A positive impact was visible to some extent but police were expecting everyone to follow traffic rules and make Nashik the safest city for driving, they added. We have been trying to book more motorists for violating traffic rules.”During the period from January 1 to March 31, 160 road accidents have happened in the city, killing 47 people and injuring 152.Though the figures are lesser compared to the same period last year in which 50 people died in 224 accidents, police said they were spreading awareness to bring down the number of accidents.Police officials said chasing the motorists who indulge in that rash driving and over-speeding was difficult as it endangers the lives of other people on the road.The officials said they wanted everyone to adhere to traffic rules for their own safety interest and for the safety of others.A large number of motorists were seen breaking traffic rules at road signals and other junctions.“If people want city roads to be safe for driving, they should follow traffic rules.
