Escalator use at railway station awaits security nod

NASHIK: The wait for the escalator at the Nashik Road railway station has got longer. Till the clearance comes in, the escalator cannot be thrown open to public.“The construction of the escalator linking platform number 1 and the new footover bridge at Nashik Road railway station has been completed. The railway officials are awaiting security clearance for the use of the escalator. Once that is done, the escalator will be thrown open to public,” a senior officer from the Railways said. The escalator is likely to be thrown open by August and the officers are trying to get the elected representatives for the inauguration.This is, however, just one part of the escalator service at the station.

The security certificate is yet to be delivered. Once that is done, the escalator will be thrown open to public,” a senior officer from the Railways said. The construction of the escalator was announced in June 2010-11, but the actual work began only in November 2017. The work was expected to be completed by May, but it got extended till June-end due to technical reasons.“Trial runs of the escalator have been conducted. We are now awaiting security certificates marking it safe for use,” said the officer. The escalator is likely to be thrown open by August and the officers are trying to get the elected representatives for the inauguration.This is, however, just one part of the escalator service at the station. The escalator on platform 2 has been announced and its work is at a very preliminary stage. It is likely to be completed by November, the officer added. Apart from these, there are four more railway stations in the division where escalators have to be constructed and they would be started gradually.
