Fortunately, the blaze did not spread to the flats. Some of the kitchens of the flats were located above the spot where the fire broke out.The vehicles belonged to Vijay Bhamre, Suresh More, Santosh More and Shekar Burkul. The police have lodged a case against unidentified persons.Fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Senior police officers, including deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Laxmikant Patil, interacted with the local residents. A couple of months ago, some unidentified men had ransacked a few vehicles in the same residential society. “Though there’s a gate in that society, there’s no security guard or CCTV,” the officer said.Mhasrul police station senior inspector Subhash Chandra Deshmukh said the the police have started an investigation to nab the culprits. “We are probing the case from two angles. Our initial feedback is that there is an ongoing feud between some apartment owners. We are investigating whether the incident is linked to that feud or not,” he added.Deshmukh said there is a slum behind the society. The police were probing whether the attack was the handiwork of anybody living in the slum.
