The woman and her family accused the hospital doctors and staff of negligence, which lead to the baby’s death.NMC’s health committee members visited the Zakir Hussain Hospital on Wednesday to look into the issue. Health committee chairman Satish Kulkarni spoke to the hospital officials and also met the aggrieved family. The decision to appoint the panel to probe into the death was made after the visit.“We met the woman whose baby died. The woman and her brother have accused the hospital staff for the death. They also complained that the nurses on duty were negligent and rude. They have alleged that the hospital staf did not attend to the patient,” said Kulkarni.The health committee panel also held meeting with hospital staff. “The nurses told us the woman had developed labour pains and she was in the labour room. She returned to her bed and passed stool. As bed was soiled, the nurses laid her on the floor where she delivered,” said Kulkarni.According to him, the woman’s relatives complained about the staff’s rude behaviour. “I am of the view that hospitals are for public service and nurses should be polite with the patients,” added Kulkarni.Kulkarni said the five-member panel will be formed within the next couple of days and would submit its findings within the next eight days.
