Nashik: The Nashik-based regional Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is working to ensure that there is zero pendency with respect to examining the samples coming from police stations across Nashik division — comprising Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar and Nandurbar districts.A senior FSL official said that zero pendency will soon be achieved as they have received 15 teams of assistant chemical analysers to expedite examinations mainly of exhibits arriving at the biological and toxicology divisions of the lab.On an average, the forensic lab gets 5,000 samples from roughly 2,000 cases for examination every month.Considering the rising pendency at the FSL given the huge number of samples coming from police stations across the division, state director general (legal and technical), SP Yadav had prepared an action plan after which three teams of assistant chemical analysers were provided to the toxicology division and 12 teams to the biological division.“The additional teams were provided on the basis of the pending cases in the biological, toxicology, general analytical and instrumentation, tape authentication and speaker identification (TASI), prohibition and excise and DNA divisions of the lab,” deputy director of the Nashik FSL BP More said.“At the beginning of year 2018 there were 550 pending samples in the toxicology division, 1,350 in the biology division, 82 in general analytical and instrumentation division and 55 samples were pending in the prohibition and excise divisions. Calculating the pending samples and the estimated flow of samples that would arrive at the forensic labs, the new teams assistant chemical analysers were given to the Nashik lab,” he added.More said that on instructions of director of the regional FSL KV Kulkarni, the teams of chemical analysers were working hard to clear the pendency. “Given the flow of samples arriving at the biological division, there are currently 1,000 samples pending and most of them have arrived in the month of September. We are sure that the pendency would be cleared by September-end and the biological division would have only samples arriving in the same month,” he said.With respect to the toxicology division, some 150 samples are pending for examination, while there are no pending samples in the general analytical and instrumentation division, prohibition of excise division, DNA and TASA.Emphasis is also being given that all samples related to cases of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act are examined at the earliest and the report is handed over to the concerned investigating officer.
