State PWD plans Rs 480crore road works pothole repair in district

These works will also be completed by the end of October,” the official said. Neither were these roads included in budget works which concerns longer stretches.

Nashik: The state public works department (PWD) will be carrying out Rs 480-crore works that includes construction and widening of rural roads besides filling up of potholes.The department has finalized most of the tenders, while the a few were in the final stages as the entire work will have to be finished by October. Works on flyovers could take longer time, said Ranjeet Hande, superintending engineer, PWD Nashik division.The PWD maintains 4,010-km roads in the district and 2,330km of the same is riddled with potholes.The work on filling the potholes has begun and the PWD has repaired 300km of roads. The pace of work will pick up with the availability of funds, another PWD official said.He further said that the work of clearing potholes was a routine exercise and would be carried out till the end of December. The work will cost Rs 42 crore.“Since last year the government has decided to finish the work earlier. Last year the deadline was November, while this year it has been set at October-end,” the official added.The government has also approved special works worth Rs 50 crore for Nashik district, besides making budgetary provision of Rs 388 crore for 991km of roads. The budgeted works include construction of two road overbridges.The works of both overbridges at Lasalgaon and Kundewadi (Niphad) had been awaiting government sanction for land acquisition for the approach roads.“The matter was pending for quite some time. Since the works were approved the land was bought and the construction has begun. Most of the works from the budgeted category will be finished by October,” the official said, adding that the works related to overbridges may take some more time.The PWD will carry out repair and maintenance of 120-km roads which were damaged badly. These special works will cost around Rs 50 crore.“The works will be carried out across the length. But these are small sections of roads which are completely destroyed. They cannot be treated with the regular works for potholes. Neither were these roads included in budget works which concerns longer stretches. These works will also be completed by the end of October,” the official said.
