Rickshaw hits traffic cop in bid to escape inspection

Nashik: A traffic police constable on duty was seriously injured after he was knocked down by an autorickshaw that was trying to escape an inspection at the busy Kathe Galli on the Nashik–Pune highway on Thursday. He was driving towards Nashik Road.The traffic police had undertaken a drive in the area to check whether auto drivers had all documents like permits and driving licences. He is undergoing treatment in a private hospital,” the investigation officer said on Friday.The rickshaw driver, Sanjay Chawla, suffered serious head injuries and has been admitted to the Nashik civil hospital, added the officer. “When Zankar saw Chawla approaching, he directed him to stop the vehicle at Kathe Galli. The rickshwaw driver, who was allegedly drunk, was also injured in the incident.“Constable Ganesh Zankar has sustained severe injuries on the back, legs, hand and in the head.

Failure to present the papers means that the auto driver has to pay fine or face legal action.Constable Zankar was part of the police team during the drive. “When Zankar saw Chawla approaching, he directed him to stop the vehicle at Kathe Galli. The driver, however, accelerated the vehicle and tried to flee,” said Sagar Jadhav, a policeman who was on duty at the spot.“In the process, the driver lost control of the vehicle and knocked Zankar down before his vehicle turned turtle. The body camera worn by Zankar was also damaged completely,” added Jadhav.Based on Jadhav’s complaint, police have registered a case against the rickshaw driver under IPC sections 279 (rash driving on a public way), section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and section 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of 50 rupees)
