Team of Australian women says cheers to Nashik wine

Nashik: A group of 11 women from Sydney, Australia are doing the vineyard trail of five wineries in Nashik, considered India’s wine capital. Coordinator of All India Wine Producers’ Association and Nashik Wine Tour organiser, Manoj Jagtap, who has been showing them wineries in Nashik, said, “This is the first time I’m showing around an all-women team from Australia.” They will be recommending Nashik and its wine to people back home, the leader of the group said. They are accompanied by Rohit Gehlot.The women told this reporter that they were very surprised that the wine in India was so good. So this visit helped me do that too,” Merryl said.The group of women has been touring India for the past month.

The women are not just sampling the wine, but also enjoying the local culture. This is their first visit to Nashik.They visited Grover Zampa, Vallonne Vineyards, Moet Hennessy India (Chandon), Sula and Soma. Claudia Wolf, who owns the Tikka Tours travel agency and is leading the team, said, “This is my third trip to India. I visited this place in April 2016 and wanted to bring tourists from my country here.”Her travel agency is named after the Indian delicacy Tikka, she said. Claudia describes herself as an India-Sri Lanka luxury travel specialist.The team of tourists include Dorothy Roberts, Linda Barrett, Merryl Jones, Pearl Casazza, Kerrie Gibbons, Marion Heap, Gillan Adrian, Judy Barlow, Tracy Childs, and Kathy Adrian. They are accompanied by Rohit Gehlot.The women told this reporter that they were very surprised that the wine in India was so good. They said they also enjoyed the ambience of the vineyards. “This is an all-women group. The wine is superb. French, Italian, Australian – we get it all here,” Dorothy Roberts said.“They bought wine bottles to take back home for other people there to taste. They will be recommending Nashik and its wine to people back home, the leader of the group said. One of the women said her husband was born in India, and she had got the chance to visit the place from where he had come to Australia. “My husband Derek was born in 1941 in Mumbai, and his family lived in Samangaon, on the outskirts of the city. So this visit helped me do that too,” Merryl said.The group of women has been touring India for the past month.
