NMC gives more time to apply for regularising illegal buildings

NASHIK: The civic body has extended the deadline to December end for owners of illegal structures to submit applications to regularise them. "We will start the process of regularisation from January next year as it will take a long time to complete the process. But, it had received only 66 applications till April 30 this year.In May, when the NMC made it clear that it would not extend the deadline, a section of builders, developers and property owners hurriedly applied for regularising the structures. The officials said that since the process of regularisation is a long and cumbersome exercise, they would not entertain any application after the deadline.In June, the state government has directed the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to complete the process by February 2020. We will ensure that the process is completed by the deadline set by the government," an official said.The city has around 7,000 illegal constructions and so far the civic body has received about 3,000 applications for regularisation.The state government had issued a resolution on October 7 last year, stating that unauthorised structures that came up before December 31, 2015 can be regularised by paying compounding charges.Accordingly, the NMC had issued a notification on December 1 last year, inviting applications from developers to get unauthorised structures regularised by paying compounding charges.

By May 31, the NMC received total 2,923 applications.Now, the NMC has extended the deadline to December 31 to help those developers and builders who are yet to apply for regularising illegal structures.The compounding charges are in the range of 10% to 30% of the ready reckoner (RR) rates, depending on the location of illegal constructions.Apart from reservation on public utility places like playgrounds, gardens and open spaces, unauthorised constructions on other reserved places wherein the reservation has been shifted to another location or cancelled and the landowner had spent for that, the structures can be declared as compounded.According to the NMC notification, unauthorised constructions on rivers, ponds, lakes, blue lines, in defence/security areas, near heritage structures, at dumping grounds, in environmentally sensitive areas, on mountain slopes, in coastal reserve zones, on forest land, on buffer zones, structurally unsafe buildings, development on land apart from residential, commercial and industrial land are not to be considered for regularisation.
