Cops suggest measures for smooth vehicle flow

Nashik: The city police have suggested a slew of measures to the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation regarding the smart road pilot project.The work on the smart road project has been taken up between Ashok Stambh and Trimbak Naka. Traffic from Ashok Stambh to Trimbak Naka would be diverted on this route once the work for the smart road project is taken up here. Given the huge flow of traffic from different sides, Ashok Stambh area witnesses traffic snarls all through the day.“At most junctions which have circles or traffic islands, they have been replaced with road signals. Officials of the construction company said the entire project would be completed by March 31.The road is being constructed at a cost of Rs 14.53 crore.

Nashik: The city police have suggested a slew of measures to the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation regarding the smart road pilot project.The work on the smart road project has been taken up between Ashok Stambh and Trimbak Naka. Officials of the construction company working on the project on Wednesday made a presentation to the city police commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal.During the meeting, Singal suggested that the ring road system at Ashok Stambh should be done away with and a signal should be set up there. Given the huge flow of traffic from different sides, Ashok Stambh area witnesses traffic snarls all through the day.“At most junctions which have circles or traffic islands, they have been replaced with road signals. The move has proven extremely beneficial,” Singhal said.Even in Nashik, traffic islands have been removed at a couple of junctions and replaced with road signals. This has not only streamlined the traffic, but also led to a drop in accidents at the junctions.The top cop also said that the police chowky at CBS junction should be prominent so that the police personnel deployed there can keep a watch on the traffic and rush to take necessary measures at the time of need.Meanwhile, the construction company was also instructed to make necessary changes to ensure that autorickshaws do not block the main carriageway and slots are made for the rickshaw to be tucked inside the shoulder of the road.Officials of the construction company said that they would speak to their seniors and another round of discussion would be held with the police commissioner to make necessary changes as there was still time to incorporate modifications in the project.Singhal also instructed the officers concerned to get the encroachments on the alternative road removed. Traffic from Ashok Stambh to Trimbak Naka would be diverted on this route once the work for the smart road project is taken up here. The traffic will be diverted from Ashok Stambh via Raviwar Karanja, Sangli Bank, Shalimar to Khadkali Signal.The smart road of 1.1 km will have proper footpaths, cycle track, service lands, bus stops, pedestrian crossing areas. Officials of the construction company said the entire project would be completed by March 31.The road is being constructed at a cost of Rs 14.53 crore. The smart road will also have Wi-Fi access points, kiosks, variable message display, emergency call box, public addressing system and smart bins as well. Further, it will have smart lighting, CCTV surveillance system and security system.
