159 suspected criminals rounded up in night operation

Nashik: City police detained 159 suspected criminals in a surprise combing operation late Tuesday night. Over the next two and a half hours, police detained 159 suspects.“Those rounded up were quizzed about crimes that have not been solved so far. All DCPs, ACPs and in-charge officers of the city’s 13 police stations, officials of Crime Branch Units 1 and 2 were involved in the operation. Police officials of all police stations and those in the crime branch were introduced to the 159 and given a quick recapitulation of their history, the officer said. All detained people were lodged in barrack no.17 of the police headquarters.

The details of their current activities and the people they are in contact with will be verified by police.The operation began at about 11 pm on Tuesday, on instructions from Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal. All DCPs, ACPs and in-charge officers of the city’s 13 police stations, officials of Crime Branch Units 1 and 2 were involved in the operation. All those with records of property and body offences were rounded up.Combing teams, monitored by DCP Vijaykumar Magar, DCP Srikrishna Kukate and DCP Laxmikant Patil targeted slums and detained history-sheeters with police records showing house break-ins, theft, robbery, motorcycle theft or body offences. Over the next two and a half hours, police detained 159 suspects.“Those rounded up were quizzed about crimes that have not been solved so far. Details of the current activities of the 159 people were noted down, and data in police records was updated with latest photographs, cellphone numbers and addresses,” CP Ravinder Kumar Singal said.Asked why the criminals were all brought to barrack 17 when they could have been quizzed in their own police station areas, the CP said criminals often stay in one area and operate in another. Police officials of all police stations and those in the crime branch were introduced to the 159 and given a quick recapitulation of their history, the officer said.
