Not wearing seat belt while driving proved fatal for 12 drivers this year

Nashik: The traffic police have found that none of the twelve people driving four wheelers who died in road accidents this year were wearing seat belts.The traffic police added that this year from January 1 to November 30, 116 bikers died in accidents. The police said that Tushar was not wearing a helmet. Analysis done by the police showed that 113 of them were not wearing helmets.Police officers said that they have been spreading awareness among people regarding safety measures for the past three years. The biker identified as Tushar Daware was crossing the road on his bike to move towards Chincholi village when he was knocked down.

Still, a large number of motorists are found neglecting the use of the safety gear.Senior police officers of the city traffic branch said that the chances of survival of accident victims, who have not worn seat belts or helmets, is very less. It has also been observed that people also drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol, which increases the chance of rash driving and an accident.Out of the total accidents, 70% of the accident victims are found to be in the age group of 18 years to 40 years. The death of the young members affects the entire family. Police officers said that if the victim is the sole bread winner of a family, the consequences of such negligent attitude towards safety measures are even more.The city police have appealed to motorists to wear helmets, seat belts for their own safety and also not drive under the influence of alcohol and indulge in rash driving.The traffic police said that many pedestrians also got killed. This year, there have been 53 deaths of pedestrians in the city till now.On December 8, a 22-year-old youth got killed when he knocked down by a speeding tractor. The biker identified as Tushar Daware was crossing the road on his bike to move towards Chincholi village when he was knocked down. The police said that Tushar was not wearing a helmet.
