Man arrested for damaging statue in Trimbakeshwar

The miscreant who damaged the statue was arrested by the police after he was identified from closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage.The statue was damaged by the suspect on the intervening night of Tuesday and Monday. Nashik: Timely action by the police and revenue officials ensured that peace prevailed in Trimbakeshwar town — around 25-km from Nashik — after the statue of a revered personality was damaged on Wednesday morning.After the incident came to light, the shopkeepers downed their shutters as a mark of protest and the situation across the temple town was tense. Devotees and priests of the temple town spotted the damaged part and brought it to the notice of the police.The police also called a meeting of the peace committee members who expressed their feelings and later thanked the police and the revenue administration for ensuring that peace was maintained in the temple town.The Trimbak police told the peace committee members that the person behind the act was a native of some other state and must have committed the act under the influence of alcohol.
