NASHIK: The Upnagar police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old man, Siddharth Edke, for killing his 65-year-old father Bhagwan with a grindstone.The accused committed the crime as he suspected that his wife had an affair with the deceased. A complaint against Siddharth, a labourer, was lodged by his brother Kishor.The police said that the suspect surrendered before the police soon after killing his father. The incident took place in Gautam Nagar area of Upnagar at 4.45am.“Bhagwan, a labourer by profession, lived with his mother, wife, two sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. On Wednesday when all the family members went to sleep, Siddharth entered his father’s room with a grindstone and bludgeoned him to death,” a police officer said.Siddharth’s grandmother noticed this and started crying for help following which the accused assaulted her. When other members of the family woke up and rushed inside the room, Siddharth assaulted Kishor as well.The family members also tried to wake up Bhagwan but realised he was dead. Owing to the chaos, the neighbours got up and gathered outside the house. Meanwhile, Siddharth came out of the house and surrendered himself before the Upnagar police and narrated the incident to them.The police arrested him on the charges of murder. “Siddharth suspected that his father had an affair with his wife. The father and son used to argue over the issue while Siddharth regularly used to beat his wife over this issue. About five months ago, Siddharth had also hit his father with a stick,” the police officer said.“Considering that his son would have to face police action, Bhagwan had not approached the police then,” he added.
