Green activists object to reservation of Gangapur STP

The land for the one at Gangapur has been acquired and handed over to the NMC and Pandit has objected that the Gangapur STP land has been mentioned under amenity spaces. The reservation for an STP at Gangapur has been included under the amenity space. He has forwarded the application to the divisional and civic town planning departments for possible changes. "We are happy that Dave took cognisance of our objection and has asked for an explanation from the town planning departments," said Pandit. Rajesh Pandit, petitioner PIL on river pollution, wrote to Dave highlighting that NEERI's suggestions have been sidelined in the DP.

Nashik: The environmental activists have objected to reservation of Gangapur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) being included under the amenity space category in the new revised draft development plan (DP).They have also submitted their objection to the revenue commissioner Eknath Dave who has forwarded it to the town planning departments of Nashik division and the civic body seeking explanation.The activists objected to modifications in the revised draft DP which according to them has ignored National Environment Engineering Research Institute's (NEERI) guidelines. Rajesh Pandit, petitioner PIL on river pollution, wrote to Dave highlighting that NEERI's suggestions have been sidelined in the DP. The DP was published by the urban development department on January 9.According to Pandit, the green belt near Nasardi River will be reduced as per the proposal in the DP."We also object to the usage of the term public amenities for STP plots. The reservation for an STP at Gangapur has been included under the amenity space. We had submitted our objection to Dave. He has forwarded the application to the divisional and civic town planning departments for possible changes. A copy of the same has been given to us," he said.The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has planned two STPs — one in Pimpalgaon Khamb and the other in Gangapur. The land for the one at Gangapur has been acquired and handed over to the NMC and Pandit has objected that the Gangapur STP land has been mentioned under amenity spaces."We are happy that Dave took cognisance of our objection and has asked for an explanation from the town planning departments," said Pandit.
