done...Nashik: The property survey being carried out by the civic body for the first time since 1999 has identified 40,000 new properties so far and officials estimated that an equal number of properties could be added by the time the survey ends.The present number of properties in the city is 4.23 lakh.The swelling of properties would be a boon for the cash strapped municipal corporation as its coffers would be richer by at least 20%. At present, NMC's revenue from property tax is Rs 86 crore.The NMC has involved a New Delhi-based private firm to find non-assessed properties and identify change in use, along with revision of assessment value of properties.A senior NMC official told TOI that the company has surveyed 2.25 lakh properties in Nashik West, Satpur and Cidco divisions. A similar exercise would start soon in Panchavati, Nashik East and Nashik Road divisions."We have identified 40,000 new properties so far. We are expecting to add another 40,000 new properties by the time we complete the survey," the official said.Sources in the civic body said these additional properties would increase the proper tax collection by over Rs 16 crore.As per norms, it is mandatory to the civic bodies to conduct property survey every four years. But the NMC has not conducted the survey for the past 17 years.In 2007, the civic body had appointed a private agency to conduct the survey but the agency could not complete it even after two extensions.
