Shiv Sena not satisfied with loan waiver, says Uddhav Thackeray

NASHIK: Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday expressed dissatisfaction over the farm loan waiver scheme announced by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday. Hence, we urged Thackeray to take efforts for loan waiver up to June 30, 2017. But, this will not benefit most of the farmers in the district as they have dues up to June 30, 2017. Thackeray also promised to make efforts to withdraw the cases against farmers during the agitation. "Most farmers will get relief, but farmers from some districts like Nashik will not benefit from the decision," he said during a visit to the rural areas of the district.The government has announced loan waiver up to June 30, 2016.

But, this will not benefit most of the farmers in the district as they have dues up to June 30, 2017.The Rs 34,000-crore loan waiver scheme will see debt of up to Rs 1.5 lakh written off, making 40 lakh farmers debt free. The government also decided to give 25% loan return benefits to those farmers who repaid their loans regularly.Calling the farm loan waiver as the victory of farmers'unity, Thackeray said that Maharashtra is the only state in the country where farmers compelled the government to waive farm loans. Thackeray also promised to make efforts to withdraw the cases against farmers during the agitation."I came here to meet the farmers who are disappointed over the government's decision. I have already informed the chief minister about this and will pursue the issue further," he said.The farmers urged Thackeray to provide loan waiver benefits to farmers having dues up to June 30, 2017, instead of June 30, 2016.Dhondiram Rayate, co-ordinator of Kisan Kranti , said, "The government has announced loan waiver up to June 30, 2016. But, this will not benefit most of the farmers in the district as they have dues up to June 30, 2017. Hence, we urged Thackeray to take efforts for loan waiver up to June 30, 2017.
