MP, MLA dummies mocked as Noida dump site protest trends on Twitter

NOIDA: Even as Noida Authority began dumping garbage at the sector 123 dump site, the protest against the dump site is turning innovative. Meanwhile on Twitter, the hashtag #NoidaAgainstDumpyard is trending along with football world cup and Eid festival in India. While inhabitants of village Parthala and neighbouring areas took out a procession with prototype dummies of MP Mahesh Sharma and MLA Pankaj Singh seated on a donkey garlanded by shoes with the underlying message that the common public will not be taken for a ride, most women and residents from Homes 121 undertook a protest march from Noida stadium to DM office later in the evening. “We gave our petition to city magistrate Mahendra Kumar Singh who told us that he’ll forward it to the DM and chief minister as desired by us,” said Shobit Singh of sector 121.Meanwhile the movement garnering all round support has been taken to the next level on social media where #NoidaAgainstDumpyard became one of the top trending topics once it was launched at 12 noon on Saturday and became top trending hashtag. "From 12 noon to 7:40pm the #NoidaAgainstDumpyard hashtag saw about 15,000 tweets with about 75,000 impressions (seen, liked, retweeted or tweeted based on twitter analytics),” said Anoopam Oberoi, resident of sector 122.Prominent amongst those who tweeted against the dump site were Misa Bharti, daughter of Lalu Yadav, Anil Yadav national spokesperson Samajwadi Party (SP) Radhika Khera national media coordinator Indian National Congress and Juhi Singh spokesperson SP.“Residents continuously tweeted all throughout the day against the landfill site and they tagged Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Prime Minister of India, district administration of Gautam Budh Nagar, local MLA, MP and other prominent people,” said Oberoi who adds that the local administration and the government should roll back this decision as this dump yard will affect more than 10 lakh people in Noida and Noida Extension.
