Boney Kapoor plans film city in Jewar

Greater Noida: Movie producer Boney Kapoor has expressed interest in acquiring 30 acres near the proposed airport at Jewar to set up a film city Kapoor is expected to visit the area sometime next week, accompanied by his architect. The programme aimed at showcasing investment opportunities in various sectors in the state.Bhatia said Kapoor had then signed an MoU with the UP government to develop a film city. “They had expressed interest in setting up a film city in Uttar Pradesh. We have received information from Lucknow that Kapoor will visit Uttar Pradesh next week for the site inspections,” Bhatia said. They were exploring two options — Jewar and Lucknow.

Officials in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) said Kapoor had shortlisted another site in Lucknow and was expected to choose any of the two plots during his visit.“We have scheduled a visit to Jewar next week. I will surely visit the project site. We are yet to finalise the dates. It is too early for me to comment on the development till everything is finalised,” Kapoor told TOI.Sandeep Marwah, founder of Noida Film City, said Jewar was a viable option for developing a second film city in the area as no land was available in Noida to expand the existing facility.Kapoor’s interest in developing a film city in UP goes back to February, when the state government had organised a two-day investors’ summit in Lucknow, said Shailendra Bhatia, OSD at YEIDA. The programme aimed at showcasing investment opportunities in various sectors in the state.Bhatia said Kapoor had then signed an MoU with the UP government to develop a film city. “They had expressed interest in setting up a film city in Uttar Pradesh. They were exploring two options — Jewar and Lucknow. We have received information from Lucknow that Kapoor will visit Uttar Pradesh next week for the site inspections,” Bhatia said.
