NOIDA: A 35-year-old man suffering from mouth cancer was arrested on Sunday for allegedly murdering his wife after she refused to have physical relations with him in Chhijarsi village on July 11. The accused Mahesh had fled to his hometown in Lalitpur after stabbing his wife, Mamta, to death. He was arrested on Sunday morning from near SJM Hospital.Amit Kumar Singh, SHO, Phase 3 police station said, the couple lived with their daughter Sakshi (15) and Sandeep (12) in a rented accommodation in Noida. Mahesh’s disease was diagnosed six months ago and it was in the last stage. Two months ago, the family shifted to Noida to seek medical treatment in AIIMS. His wife worked in a garment factory while Mahesh remained jobless.During questioning, Mahesh told cops that his wife had started maintaining distance from him for the past few months. “She had started talking to other persons. I suspected she had extra-marital affair and I was hurt,” said Mahesh. He went into depression due to his disease and family feud and frequently fought with Mamta.On Tuesday night, the couple slept in a room while the two children slept on the roof with their maternal uncle Rahul. Next morning, Rahul woke up to a rescue call by her sister. When he climbed down the stairs, he found his sister wounded in her neck.She was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.Police said the woman maintained distance from her husband since his face was ‘defaced’ due to the disease and it appeared scary.Police have recovered a knife used in the crime from the possession of Mahesh. “He was produced in court that sent him to judicial custody in the afternoon,” the SHO said.In Luksar jail, there is no facility of treatment for cancer patients. A jail official said that since Mahesh is in the last stage of cancer, bail can be granted to him for medical treatment.
