GHAZIABAD: A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan of her rented accommodation in Mahendra Enclave on Thursday. The woman has been identified as Malati Maurya, a post-graduate in home science. She has left behind a suicide note in which she has claimed she was unable to bear the pain of her prolonged illness. Maurya killed herself when she was alone at home as her father Ramamurti, a gardener, had left for work and her mother, who works in a private school, was also on duty. Her family told police her body was found by her 13-year-old brother when he returned from school around 1.30pm.“She had scribbled the note in a dairy that we found in a room. She claimed to have taken the extreme step as she was unable to bear the pain of her prolonged illness. The note will be sent for handwriting analysis. The post-mortem report has revealed asphyxiation due to hanging as cause of death,” said local police post in-charge, Jeetendra Kumar.Ramamurti, however, told TOI she had kidney stone last year for which she had been successfully operated. “The reason behind her suicide is inexplicable. She did not have any other illness apart from kidney stone last year. She had quit her job a few months after joining after she completed post-graduation. We’re not financially strained. I was thinking about her marriage and had asked her if she had anyone in mind. She had served me breakfast in the morning. I asked the locals if they had seen anyone visiting our house, but none of them seemed to have any idea,” said Ramamurti.
