NOIDA: A speeding Toyota Fortuner on Monday crashed into a jersey barrier that have been put up near the China cut to create temporary U-turns, prompting commuters to seek reflectors at the place.The driver of the SUV and the two others who were in the vehicle escaped without any major injuries but the car’s bonnet was mangled in the accident that happened around 12.20am.Police said the speeding car (DL10CE7306) was travelling from Botanical Garden towards Sector 18 when it crashed into the jersey barrier. “Three youths were present in the car, which was speeding. Fortunately, all of them escaped any minor injuries. It seems like the driver could not spot the U-turn due to a flash of light,” said Mukesh Kumar, chowki in-charge, Sector 18.The car, whose bonnet got stuck into the jersey barrier, was lifted from the spot with the help of a crane around 2am. The Sector 18 market association members said the temporary U-turns should have reflectors so that commuters can spot them from a distance. Traffic diversions have been put into place near the China cut recently and temporary U-turns created before it.Atul Gupta, one of the commuters who reached the spot after the accident, said reflectors were required on the temporary U-turns. “There is no place for U-turns here. But in case, a temporary arrangement is being done, we at least need to take precautionary measures like installing reflectors on the barriers so that such accidents can be avoided,” he said.Noida Authority officials said reflectors would be installed soon on the barriers. General manager (projects) Rajiv Tyagi said the reflectors will be put on the barriers by Wednesday.
