1 killed, 2 injured as truck rams into car from behind on Eastern Peripheral Expressway

Somnath has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi and his condition is stated to be stable.

GHAZIABAD: A retired accountant with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) was killed on Wednesday when a speeding truck rammed into the rear of a car in which he was travelling on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway The accident took place at the intersection of the expressway, in an area that falls under the limits of Masuri police station.The deceased has been identified as Raj Singh (65), a resident of Rohtak in Haryana. Singh’s former colleague, Mahaveer (56), who was also in the car, suffered injuries along with the driver Somnath. Mahaveer is a serving accountant with the FCI in Hisar. The trio were travelling in a Swift Dzire from Hisar to the zonal office of FCI in Greater Noida when they met with the accident.“Mahaveer was seated in the driver’s seat while Raj Singh was seated in the rear. Eyewitnesses have told us that the truck was travelling at nearly 80kmph when the accident took place. Mahaveer has been admitted to a private hospital in Rohtak. He said that the car was moving,” Mahaveer’s nephew, Ravindra Singh, told TOI.Raj Singh was rushed to the MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad, where he died during treatment. The ownership of the truck has been traced to one Dharamveer of Salarpur in Noida,” said Umesh Bahadur Singh, SHO of Masuri police station.An FIR has been registered against the truck driver under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 304 A (causing death due to negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life of others).
