Noida to set up camps for voters’ awareness

Gautam Budh Nagar district has three Assembly constituencies — Noida, Dadri and Jewar.All three have around 13 lakh voters in total. ELC Future Voters are being set up in secondary and senior secondary schools across the country to target children in the age-group of 14 to 17 years studying in schools. NOIDA: The district administration plans to set up Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) to create awareness among voters ahead of the general election next year.ADM (finance) Keshav Kumar, who is also the deputy district election officer, said a meeting had been called on Friday with representatives of schools and colleges on how to go about the programme. He said the aim was to increase the number of voters apart from creating awareness.Launched by the Election Commission of India in August, ELCs are informal learning groups that are being set up for promoting electoral literacy among citizens of all ages. ELCs are also being set up in colleges targeting the age-group of 18 to 21 years who are pursuing graduation.The Election Commission has started revision of electoral rolls and the last date is October 31.
