Schools to meet this week on safety features in buses

The roads have to be made safer for children to travel to school and back. We will discuss with representatives of all 139 private schools.

NOIDA: The Gautam Budh Nagar administration has convened a meeting later this week of all schools in the district on safety of students travelling in buses to and from schools.The meeting has been planned in the wake of a school bus accident on Saturday in which 16 children sustained injuries — one of them suffered a skull fracture. The bus had skidded on mounds of sand kept at the Rajnigandha underpass.City magistrate Shailesh Mishra said the schools would be asked to follow specific directions for strengthening safety features in their buses. “While all schools are already aware of safety measures for operating buses, a special meeting has been called for increasing the safety awareness so that children do not suffer because of negligent bus operators. We will discuss with representatives of all 139 private schools. Noida Authority officials would also attend the meeting,” Mishra said.“We will ask the Noida Authority officials to ensure road repairs and other such work are executed in a manner that doesn’t pose any risk to vehicles. If a road is under repair, a proper sign board should be put up. Caution should be taken, especially on routes where school buses ply. Ditches should be covered or flagged. The roads have to be made safer for children to travel to school and back. We will also ask for special traffic supervision during school hours,” he added.These apart, the schools will also be given directions on seating, boarding and de-boarding of buses as well as the need for children to be supervised and surveillance of buses by close circuit cameras.
