Ghaziabad placement agency cheats 100 of Rs 1 crore with Canada job promise

GHAZIABAD: Promising unemployed men jobs in Canada , a fake placement agency in Ghaziabad allegedly cheated around 100 aspirants of over Rs 1 crore. SHO of Kavi Nagar police station, Raj Kumar Sharma, told TOI “an investigation is being conducted in the case”.An FIR has been registered against Raj Rana under IPC sections 419 (cheating for impersonation) and 420 (cheating) at Kavi Nagar police station. The agency sent me a copy of my visa last week, saying my flight is on December 18. They subsequently lodged a complaint at Kavi Nagar police station.A police team was also sent to the company office located in Shivam Ansal Building, but it also returned empty handed from there. So, I deposited the money into a bank account in Agra.

Around 15 of the victims, mostly from Bihar and various parts of Uttar Pradesh, came to the city on Thursday and lodged a complaint at Kavi Nagar police station.The complainants said they had seen advertisements by Global Overseas about jobs of storekeeper, mechanic, cook and helper in New Zealand, Australia and Canada in local newspapers. The monthly salary offered to the selected candidates was between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000.According to them, the agency — which showed its office in Raj Nagar District Centre — collected around Rs 1.5 lakh for visa and other formalities from each.Vikas Kumar (26), a resident of Raxaul in Bihar, said, “The advertisement was published in all leading newspapers of the region two to three months back. When I contac-ted the agency, I was asked to come to Ghaziabad to fill up the application form and sign an agreement.”Over the next few months, the agency took Rs 1.60 lakh from Vikas in the name of medical examination, insurance and visa processing fees.“I was offered the job of a storekeeper in Canada. So, I deposited the money into a bank account in Agra. The agency sent me a copy of my visa last week, saying my flight is on December 18. However, the owners, Raj Rana and Manu Sharma , switched off their phones on December 10,” he added.Finding something amiss, Vikas, along with his friends Ashish Kumar , Jawala and Raj Kumar, who were also fleeced in a similar fashion, came to Ghaziabad on Thursday, only to find that the agency had shut it office some days back.
