Dog bites woman, owner booked

Noida: A case has been registered against the owner of a dog after it allegedly bit a woman in a housing society in Sector 78. Police said Harkirat Singh (29), a lawyer practising in Delhi high court, had lodged the complaint against Alka Sharma (52). Both are residents of Mahagun Morderne.Harkirat said that on December 9, Alka had called her around 10.35am, asking her if she could keep her labrador, Roger, for some time. Harkirat runs a kennel from her home. “She stayed for 40 minutes and then left her dog saying she would come soon. Around noon, I was walking by the dog when it bit me in the right hand. I started bleeding. I rushed to NEO hospital in Sector 50 and had to be given 10 stretches and several injections. I called up Alka and told her what had happened. She came to my house when I was in hospital and took her dog away, but never enquired about my condition,” Harkirat said.Alka said she had kept Roger at the kennel because she had to go to Ghaziabad. “Harkirat told me Roger had bitten her. I took my dog away and kept it at another house for three days. He did not bite anybody there,” she said. Alka was taken to the police station for questioning on Saturday.Harkirat has demanded that Sharma pay her Rs 8,000 that she spent on her treatment and Rs 50,000 to settle the case.Alka has been booked under sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC.Circle officer Swetabh Pandey said: “Both parties will be called to the police station soon for questioning.”
