Tyre killers to curb wrong-lane driving installed in Noida, broken overnight!

The much-anticipated tyre killers – supposed to curb wrong-lane driving – were installed in Noida Sector 77’s Supertech North Eye junction on Monday evening. Just 18 hours later, two parts of the new installation were found broken. “When I came back home from the office last evening, I saw the tyre killers were installed but when I left for office this morning, its two parts had come off,” says Neeraj Sharma, a resident of Sector 74. As office rush grew in the morning, commuters set aside the broken parts of the tyre killers. However, the officials of the Noida Authority allege that the pieces were deliberately broken by someone late at night. “Someone has tried to sabotage the whole thing and has broken these tyre killers. According to the feedback received, some bikers who frequent the stretch removed it late night. Our team was informed right in the morning and the tyre killers will be put back soon. A fresh layer of tar will be put on the screw attachments of the breakers, making it tougher,” says Rajeev Tyagi, General Manager, Noida Authority.Residents and commuters have claimed that tyre killers don’t work properly and may damage the tyres of those coming from the right side of the carriageway. “The cutters installed on the speed breakers are supposed to go down as the vehicles come from the right side of the road. However, some of the cutters’ springs are not working correctly and they do not go down making it dangerous for the vehicles,” says Yudhvir Singh, a resident of Sector 77.As a result, Tuesday morning saw traffic nuisance on the said road. Noida Authority officials say that the working of the tyre killers will be checked again, and that these were installed in the area as part of a pilot project. If found successful, the Authority plans to put them up at four other intersections in the city, including the yet-to-be-functional Sector 76 Metro station, U-turn near Sai Temple in Sector 61, U-turn near Hoshiarpur village in Sector 51 and Sector 16A flyover.Tyre killers that were installed in Noida Sector 77’s Supertech North Eye junction on Monday evening, barely 18 hours later and disrupted trafficAccording to the Noida Authority officials, the points of installation were decided after taking public feedback. “A lot of residents in the city, especially those living in Sector 77, 76 and 74 had complained of wrong-lane driving. After various surveys and consultations, we decided to install these tyre killers to discourage wrong-lane driving,” says Tyagi. To ensure that the commuters are aware of the new installation, the Authority has even put up large banners and posters in the area warning commuters about the tyre killers.
