Noida walls get a colourful makeover to show India’s development

With paintings of a train, water management system and a satellite, among other things, walls along Captain Vijayant Thapar Marg near Noida’s Rajnigandha Chowk are greeting passersby and commuters with colourful reminders of the country’s advancement in technology.

The 400 metre long boundary wall of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Township in Sector 17, facing the main road, are being renovated with paintings depicting messages of the Clean India Campaign, role of BHEL in India’s development and slogans to discourage use of single-use plastics. The paintings have been undertaken under BHEL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) project on request by the Noida Authority. “After seeing the artwork at the NTPC underpass near Sector 24 in Noida, we wanted to get something similar done on the boundary wall of our township as well. We hired the same artists and explained to them the concept. The artists transformed our ideas into beautiful and vibrant artwork,” says Dr Balwir Talwar, General Manager, BHEL.The work on the wall was started on December 28 and is expected to be completed by January 15. “We have about 20 artists working on the project. Work on one part of the boundary wall has been almost completed while the second one will be done soon,” says Kunal Jain, co-founder of Semicircle, a group of artists.BHEL is also in talks with the officials of Noida Authority to create artwork on the Metro pillars between Sector 18 and Sector 16 Metro stations. “We aim to make Noida more beautiful with colourful paintings all around and hence all the public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the city are being requested to get paintings done on their walls under their CSR projects.
