Thieves beat up guard, steal iron scraps of Noida Metro Rail Corporation

NOIDA: The residents welfare association (RWA) of Sector 51 has complained that there have been frequent thefts of iron scrap from the Noida Metro Rail Corporation’s warehouse situated near their sector.The residents claimed that a few people stole iron scraps on Saturday too but fled before police reached.According to the residents, around 10.20pm, the security guard posted at the sector gate saw around five to six men dumping iron scraps at Bal Udyan park in the sector after allegedly stealing it from the NMRC warehouse, which is adjacent to the park.“After the security guard alerted us, I came out at the gate and saw five-six men loading the iron scrap onto a rickshaw. I gave information about the theft to the police through dial 100 while the security guard along with others went to nab the accused, but only one man could be caught. All others fled the spot at the time, only to return five minutes later in a car. They assaulted the guard and rescued the man who was earlier caught,” said Sanjeev Kumar, RWA general secretary of Sector 51.Kumar added that a police van reached the spot around 10.45pm and tried to stop the car. “The team followed the direction in which the car had gone but failed to trace it. We have given a written complaint and urged the police to intervene as there have been thefts like this in the past also,” he added.Meanwhile, Girija Shankar Tripathi, SHO of Sector 49 police station, told TOI that a case will be registered only after conducting a primary investigation.“We have received the residents’ application. The matter is being investigated and due action will be taken,” the SHO added.
