GREATER NOIDA: In a rare order, the district sessions court in Surajpur allowed a dreaded gangster to marry his 22-year-old girlfriend during his appearance in a case on Friday. Soon after getting the nod, Anil Dujana and the woman signed a marriage agreement and exchanged garlands in a two-hour ceremony in the court, his lawyer said.Dujana — currently in judicial custody, facing trial in as many as 35 cases of murder, extortion and robbery — sought the permission from second additional sessions judge Nalin Shrivastava in the morning when he was brought to the court by authorities from UP’s Maharajganj jail, Surya Pratap Singh, his lawyer, told TOI.“And the court agreed,” he said. According to Singh, the two have known each other for the past one year. “After signing the document and exchanging garlands, the duo submitted an affidavit to the court, before Dujana was sent back to jail,” he said.Of the 35 cases lodged against the gangster, originally from Greater Noida’s Dujana village, 13 are of murder, including Noida BJP functionary Vijay Pandit’s and businessman Sanjay Tyagi’s killings. Dujana has also been booked under the Gangster Act and the National Security Act by the Up government, which made it difficult for him to obtain bail from the court in other cases. “After his arrest some years back, he was initially lodged in Greater Noida’s Luksar jail, but shifted to Banda district jail in the wake of gang feuds between his accomplices and his arch-rival Sundar Bhati’s gang. Recently he was shifted to Maharajganj jail,” Singh said. Meanwhile, the police have refused to comment on the gangster’s wedding in the court. “We are not aware of any such event. No one informed us as Dujana is in judicial custody,” said a police official.Gangster Sundar Bhati is also in jail. He was arrested after a brief encounter in December 2014 from his Ghanghola village in Kasna. His gang has 41 cases against it, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery, abduction, ransom and other serious offences.
