GREATER NOIDA: Some unknown persons broke into a Moser Baer production unit which has been shut down for insolvency to allegedly steal a 250 kg silver discs worth Rs 1.15 crore on Monday night.Police informed that the eight security guards deployed at the production unit are being questioned as it was found that the thieves possessed the keys to the room where the silver disk was kept since several years.Police said the liquidator of the company visited the unit around 8pm for routine check and found out about the theft. A liquidator winds up the affairs of a company or firm after bankruptcy.“After finding out about the theft, the liquidator of the company informed us and then shut down the factory. A police team soon reached the spot. Prima facie, we found that no locks in the company were broken and their keys are found to be safe with the security guards. Also, neither the guards nor the liquidator has any clue on when the theft occurred,” said Muneesh Chauhan, SHO of Surajpur police station. The police, however, found that the grill of the main gate was cut off.Cops have detained the eight security guards for questioning while the rest of 12 guards who work in different shifts have also been called for questioning.“It seems that the thieves were helped by the security staff to break into the campus. We are still probing if they had duplicate or original keys, however in either of the cases they could not enter the unit without an insider’s help,” the SHO said.The police officer said that a written complaint has been sought from the liquidator Anil Kohli on the basis on which a case of theft will be filed against the unknown people. “We will lodge an FIR against the accused and soon recover the stolen silver disk,” Chauhan added.
