Cops to examine Noida ATMs, seal those that don’t have security

“In case, no ATM security norms are adhered to by banks, we might explore the option of sealing them. We suspect he had carried some of the cash with him and some may have been taken away by pedestrians after the duo fell down when their bike was hit by the car that gave them a chase,” SP (city) Sudha Singh told TOI.Singh said a meeting will soon be called with the bankers where they will be apprised of the required safety parameters that need to be followed.

Though Yogendra was arrested for the 2014 crime, he got out of Luksar jail on bail in 2015.Cops suspect Yogendra may have fled with multiple wads of cash — each consisting 100 notes of Rs 2,000 denomination — looted from the ATM on Tuesday, while some money had been taken away by some pedestrians when he and his accomplice, Nanhe, lost balanace and fell from their bike after being knocked down by a WagonR.Nanhe was caught hold of by the public along with a bag containing Rs 19.6 lakh. “He has identified his partner as Yogendra. At least armed guards and CCTV cameras are a must,” she added.However, the security in-charge of ATMs of a public sector bank in Noida said that doing away with armed guards was a part of “cost-cutting measure” by the banks.Meanwhile, while police claimed to be trying to locate those pedestrians who apparently fled with a part of the cash, none of the alleged miscreants could be captured as there is no CCTV camera on either side of the part of the road between Kendriya Vihar II and Sector 110 market beyond the ATM.“We are now relying on tip-offs and inputs from informers to ascertain the identity of the miscreants who would have fled with some cash. Chances are rare that someone will themselves come forward and offer cash they picked up from the spot,” an official said.
