NOIDA: Satveer Nagar promises to visit every farmer’s house in Gautam Budh Nagar because, he says, he can understand their pain. “My father was a farmer and we have been living here for generations. I intend to reach every household with the aim to address their issues,” says the 37-year-old, on whose shoulders rest the SP-BSP alliance’s prospects of wresting a seat dominated by BJP.While SP takes guard in Ghaziabad for the alliance, it is BSP that will challenge BJP from Gautam Budh Nagar, a seat currently held by Union minister Mahesh Sharma. The announcement of Nagar as the alliance candidate has buoyed the BSP ranks.After a poor show in 2014, when the party only polled 16% of the votes, there is belief that Nagar is the right man to lead a revival. His candidature was formally announced on Wednesday in the presence of SP general secretary Surendra Singh Nagar and BSP’s western UP in-charge Shamsuddin Raeen.BSP had won Gautam Budh Nagar in 2009 but BJP swept to a landslide win in 2014, bagging 50% of the total votes polled.“The BJP government did nothing for the people of the district. The MP was only interested in his ministry and no central government policy benefits reached locals here. There is a lot of anger because of that,” Nagar says.
