Three arrested after shootout in Ghaziabad, cop hurt

One constable was injured in the incident.Police said the accused have been identified as Afsar (36), Mujahid (31) and Hasmat (33). On February 10, Afsar and two of his accomplices had robbed a person of Rs 10 lakh,” Pandey said. On Wednesday, a police team saw three persons on a bike approaching the check post.

Ghaziabad: Three persons were arrested on Wednesday after a shootout at Sihani Gate area. One constable was injured in the incident.Police said the accused have been identified as Afsar (36), Mujahid (31) and Hasmat (33). All three are from Bhojpur village. “Over a dozen cases of loot and robberies have been registered against the three at various police stations in Noida, Ghaziabad , Meerut and Shimabhawali,” a police officer said.Sanjay Pandey, SHO, Sihani Gate police station, told TOI that police have set up a check post at Patel Nagar area ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. On Wednesday, a police team saw three persons on a bike approaching the check post. Policemen asked them to stop the two-wheeler but they drove past the barrier and sped off. A police team then started chasing the bike. “Police came to know through wireless communication that the three took the elevated road. Then they entered a forest near Raj Nagar area. As the police continued chasing the bike, one of the men started firing at the police team. When shots were being fired from both sides, a bullet hit Afsar’s right leg. A bullet fired from the other side hit constable Pravez (25). Both the injured were sent to a private hospital for treatment,” Pandey said.Police recovered a pistol, two country-made guns, some live cartridges and the bike, which did not have a number plate, from the trio. “Afsar had been absconding. He was involved in a robbery in Kavi Nagar. On February 10, Afsar and two of his accomplices had robbed a person of Rs 10 lakh,” Pandey said.
