Lok Sabha elections 2019: Noida administration takes series of initiatives to increase voter turnout

Even as district administration has intimated voter registration to continue till March 15 for all those who still haven't got their names in the voter list.Meerut commissioner Anita Meshram to oversee electoral preparations in Gautam Budh Nagar district on March 15, the Noida Authority on Tuesday, held a voter awareness and education drive on the electoral participation process under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at Sector 19 community centre for residents of sectors 19, 20, 26, 27 and more.The process will be carried out across other sectors through all 10 work circles of authority in coming days and will entail use of electoral process related poster banners at public places and parks, colleges, RWA offices, vegetable and fruit mandis (markets) and more. “We carried out awareness work related to electoral process in sector 19 today and will be continuing the same at sector 36 on Thursday, March 14 and at Amity University in sector 123 on Monday, March 18 where over 1,000 students will be participating,” said Rajeev Tyagi general manager Noida Authority.A demonstration of electronic voting machine (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Trail (VVPT) was also held by district election office at the community centre to apprise all residents. VVPT includes a printed ballot as a receipt (attached to the EVM) that a voter can view to verify their vote before leaving an electronic voting machine. “The VVPT is a good mechanism towards transparency and was welcomed by all residents,” said R C Gupta, RWA general secretary sector 19.District magistrate BN Singh and SSP Vaibhav Krishan along with FONRWA (Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations) president NP Singh also held meetings in Chhalera village where the DM directed all BLOs, supervisors and lekhpals to ensure distribution of Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) cards to all new voters and directed all zonal and sector magistrates to review work in their areas across Noida, Jewar and Dadri Vidhan Sabha constituencies from March 14 onwards and submit reports.While March 15 is the last chance for those eligible voters to get their names enrolled in the voter list who are still left out, the district election officials said that the new applicant’s names can be updated on electoral rolls and they can cast their votes by using any photo id cards such as Aadhaar, driving licence passport. However, their EPIC cards will be delivered later. “The Election Commission has extended the enrolment period for new voters and these cards will be distributed within a week. We are also engaging local RWAs and apartment welfare associations to inform and encourage people to take part in electoral processes in large numbers,” said R K Rai, SDM Dadri and in-charge Noida election office who adds that around 1.44 lakh new voters were enrolled in the last revision.The election department has also expedited work on identifying critical, sensitive and vulnerable booths. “We will take appropriate measures like more security personnel deployment, videography, webcasting to ensure smooth election for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections,” said BN Singh, district magistrate Gautam Budh Nagar.While training of zonal and sector magistrates took place at the collectorate on Tuesday the DM directed zonal and nodal district officers of Noida (61) Vidhan Sabha constituency to tour their area on March 14, sector magistrates of Dadri (62) Vidhan Sabha constituency to tour their area on March 15 and Jewar (63) on March 16 and submit reports on discrepancies, issues and solutions related to the areas.Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency comprises of three assembly constituencies – Noida, Jewar and Dadri - in Gautam Budh Nagar and two constituencies of Khurja and Jewar in Bulandshahr. The three assembly constituencies have 14.88 lakh voters while there are 7.52 lakh voters in Khurja and Sikandrabad.
