Noida: With the general election approaching, the district authorities seem to be on a spree of issuing notices to the residents they suspect can create trouble or hinder the poll process in any way. Sources said each police station has been given a target of around 500 notices for issuance before the election. However, the spree has led to questions being raised about the role of the police, with a local businessman alleging that the notice has been issued against him and his relatives for no reason. The notice issued to Tarun Kumar (31), a transporter based in Sector 55, by the office of the city magistrate states that a report has been received from Sector 24 police station that he and his relatives can disrupt peace ahead of the Lok Sabha election.“As per the facts of the report given by the Sector 24 SHO, there is a grave possibility that the persons can disrupt peace. Hence, there are sufficient grounds for the initiating proceedings under CrPC 107/116,” reads the notice.Further, the city magistrate has asked all those who have been issued this notice as to why they may not be asked to furnish a personal bond each of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of same amount.“He does not have a criminal background, but the notice reflects otherwise. We did not even get to know about the notice but only got to know when his relatives informed us since the notice reached them. We were shocked to see it and lodged a complaint with the Sector 24 SHO. It reflects bad on anyone’s character,” said Tarun’s father Nirankar Singh.“While the Sector 24 SHO has accepted their mistake, he asked us to visit the city magistrate’s office and register an objection.”Asked whether there was a police complaint against Tarun Kumar, chowki in-charge of sectors 12/22 Dhananjay Singh admitted there was none. “It is done only to ensure peaceful election process and hence, persons affiliated with political parties are also bound down in similar manner,” he said.Asked about the character assassination associated with the binding down of “innocent people”, Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Vaibhav Krishna denied any such doubts on character associated with the notice, stating that no action was being planned.
