Greater Noida: Four men have been booked for allegedly cheating a 92-year-old retired wing commander of the Indian Air Force of Rs 6 crore on the pretext of investing in mutual funds.The accused were identified as Mukesh Kumar Rai — chairman of Anjali Building Pvt limited, Manoj Kumar— chairman of Newtech Promoters and Developers Pvt Limited, Arun Kumar — an executive in Newtech promoters and Sanjeev Kumar— who was introduced to the complainant as the partner of the two businessmen.According to the police report, the accused had in 2013 promised a 30% interest to Jagannath Bhandari (92), who lives in Noida Sector 21 — on his investment, but did not return the money and allegedly issued death threats to Bhandari.“I met one of the accused, Arun Kumar, who was at that time an adviser at a mutual fund investing company. Arun introduced me to the other three men. They offered me an investment plan in which they made me sign 14 MOUs that said that I would receive 30% interest and in case there are delays an extra 5% interest would be added as compensation. They persuaded me so I invested around Rs 6 crore in 14 installments during the year 2013 to 2015 for which they gave me small amounts as return. However, most of it remained unpaid,” the Bhandari wrote in his complaint.Bhandari’s son, who stays abroad, a year back took him there as he wasn’t keeping well.“A few months backs, when I returned to India, I called them up as I hadn’t received the returns. Initially they promised to check the details and then started ignoring my phone calls. They also threatened and abused me,” Bhandari said.Rajveer Singh, the SHO of Sector 20 police station, said that they were directed by the court under Section 156(3) of the IPC to register an FIR in the case.“A case has been registered against the four accused under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the IPC while the allegations are being investigated. Due action will be taken,” Singh said.When contacted, a spokesperson of Newtech promoters said, “The case seems to be a misinterpretation of facts. We are supporting the police in the investigation.”
