Can it be said that austerity is being put on the mat if some new structures really come up. Reason may be anything but the proposals for the construction of a new Parliament House and the news about setting up of a new film city in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, at this juncture can hardly shake the impression that, it is something off the tangent.

Setting up of a new film city is no bad idea but, at present the idea to go ahead with it emits impulses of a kind of defeat from the concept called, Bollywood.

Reasons may be a tinge of politics but what rings from the back of one`s mind is something different.

Was NCB Waiting For Sushant`s End!

The alleged drug racket in Bollywood was not thriving without the Mumbai police looking the other way for obvious reasons. But that doesn`t help the NCB to run away with a clean chit. Or its (NCB) wing in Mumbai was suffering from any compulsion. How were the peddlers and the addicts doing their bits right under  its nose?

All said and done, the principal reason behind the proposal for a new film city is assumed to be different than politics. With all the might in its command, a brute majority in its support,  the NDA seems not prepared to take on the Bollywood the way it should. 

Bollywood is alleged to be in the mess of a drug cartel in which many big ones are part and secondly, the alleged ‘gang’ culture which has been ruling the roost for last several years was known to many. Slowly the bond between the Bollywood big-wigs and the political dispensations in Mumabi has become so robust that, now isolation is mulled to be the safer option for the NDA to deprive the Bollywood of its self-acquired invincibility and paper over the underlying malaise.

NCB Must Do Course Correction

But, that does not sound to be a correct thing at the moment, for the simple reason that, it should not be a contest between the Bollywood and an all powerful system ruling over the country, armed with all the mechanism to discipline any delinquent body or cluster.

Drug abuse or cartel being the flash in the pan, for may be years, were the agencies like Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a slumber? Or it was a situation of hand-in-glove between the errands and the corrector that accounted for such a humongous ramification.

Now that the perpetrators are under the lens, the NCB is still capable of unearthing the malaise and punish the guilty. The  job must go on, not only in Mumbai but elsewhere.

So, the haste behind setting up of another film city, at an enormous cost, can be held back for sometime and the chase for the cartel would be a stronger lesson for the people in the tinsel world than leaving them where they are.
