NOIDA: The rise in dog bite incidents has prompted the Ghaziabad CMO to start a round-the-clock facility for administering anti-rabies shots at all health centres. For now, such units will come up at the health centres in Loni, Muradnagar, Bhojpur and Dasna.The death of a 14-year-old boy on September 4, a month after he was bitten by a neighbours dog in Charan Singh colony has triggered a wave of concern about the dog menace and public safety. The pomeranian that bit the kid was not vaccinated and the boy had not informed his parents about the dog bite.As per the official record, the district MMG hospital and district combined hospital in Ghaziabad administer 411 anti-rabies injections every day.Dr Bhavtosh Shankdhar, CMO in Ghaziabad said, "In cases of dog bites in the rural parts of the district, the patients had to travel to the nearest district hospital. Now, they can go to the CHCs in Loni Muradnagar, Dasna, and Bhojpur."Recently, GMC has identified 53 zones as high-risk dog bite areas. As per the official records, over 23,000 stray dogs have been sterilized in the last year, and 5,200 dog licenses have been issued so far.
