Can you feel winter? Air quality dips in Noida, Gzb

NOIDA: The air quality has started deteriorating as winter sets in. Noida and Ghaziabad, earlier recording AQI in good and satisfactory categories, have had moderate air for past three days, showed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. Experts attributed it to meteorological factors, like temperature, wind speed and direction. Meanwhile, the air quality in Greater Noida turned poor from moderate on Sunday and has remained poor since then. Greater Noida has been seeing the worst air quality in the region, which experts attributed to traffic and industries.Track the pollution level in your city On Tuesday, Greater Noida recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 295 (poor), Noida 150 (moderate) and Ghaziabad 155 (moderate). On Monday, Greater Noida had an AQI of 228 (poor), Noida 126 (moderate) and Ghaziabad 124 (moderate). The air quality started deteriorating from September 20, when Noida recorded an AQI of 88 (satisfactory), Greater Noida 183 (moderate) and Ghaziabad 134 (moderate).According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the air quality in Delhi-NCR was in the moderate category on Tuesday. Predominant winds were from the northwest/southeast directions at 6-12 kmph speed during daytime. The air quality will likely remain in the moderate category on Wednesday and Thursday, it said.The CAQM has already directed officials to implement the GRAP from October 1. The enforcement of solid waste management rules, construction and demolition guidelines, registration of construction sites on a portal, mechanical sweeping, anti-smog guns, and a ban on diesel gensets for regular use are among the GRAP stage 1 measures.A pollution department official said, We will take measures to curb pollution. We also issued a public notice pertaining to the citizen charter, advising people to keep engines of vehicles properly tuned, maintain proper tyre pressure in vehicles, keep PUC certificates of vehicles up to date, turn off engines at red lights, etc. People are also advised to use hybrid or electric vehicles for commuting and avoid firecrackers during festivals to ensure eco-friendly celebrations, he said. People are also advised to not drive end-of-life vehicles, i.e., petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. The neighboring districts of Neemuch are still in deficit and are expecting more rainfall to remove the shortage. The Meteorological Department has forecasted light to moderate rains in Indore and nearby districts.Air quality lab building by next year: BSPCBConstruction has begun on an air quality laboratory building in Patna, India. The laboratory, to be used by the Bihar State Pollution Control Board, is expected to be completed by the end of next year. It will include facilities for sample collection and testing, as well as dedicated space for scientists and a conference room. The entire premises will be certified as a green building. The project is being carried out by the Industrial Development Authority and will cost around Rs 16 crore.
