Students to pick up brooms, help keep Noida clean this Sunday

NOIDA: The Noida Authority has planned a mega sanitation drive across 70 locations on October 1 with the help of 100 sanitation workers, residents and students. Officials said the move was intended to cover more areas to improve the citys Swachh rankings.The Shramdaan will take place between 10am to 11am on Sunday. The locations where the mega drive will take place include Agahpur, Behlolpur, Sadarpur, Baraula, Rasoolpur, Navada, Raipur and Sultanpur among other locations.There will be 100 people at each location cleaning public areas including main roads, residential areas and parks. We will provide proper kits including gloves, T-shirts and masks to our staff and volunteers for the mega drive, said SP Singh, deputy general manager of Public Health at the Authority.Singh added that the drive has been named Swachhta Hi Sewa, calling for the participation of all to make the city clean.Earlier this month, Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M inspected the sanitation work in the city and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh each on three sanitation agencies for leaving heaps of garbage unattended along main roads in Sector 122 and other mismanagement of sanitation works. According to the Swachh Bharat rankings of 2022, Noida was declared the cleanest city in Uttar Pradesh and it secured the 11th rank in the list of 100 cities in the 1 lakh-plus population category.Swachh Survekshan was introduced by the ministry of housing and urban affairs in 2016 as a competitive framework to encourage cities to improve the status of urban sanitation while encouraging large-scale citizen participation.We also published the following articles recentlySwachh Survekshan: Centralteam likely to visit city soonA central team is expected to visit Patna as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2023 to assess the citys cleanliness. The ongoing strike by Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) workers and contractual staff may affect the citys performance in the survey. If garbage is found on the streets, the city will receive lower marks in the cleanliness category. The PMC is urging people to maintain cleanliness to improve the citys performance. The PMC has applied for a three-star category in the garbage-free city certification. The survey results will be delayed this year due to pending surveys in some areas.Sanitation booths to make work easier for safai mitrasThe Municipal Corporation (MC) in Chandigarh has inaugurated a state-of-the-art sanitation booth for safai mitras in Sarangpur village. Equipped with modern facilities such as drinking water and first aid kits, the booth aims to provide a safe and healthy working environment for the safai mitras. The initiative demonstrates the MCs commitment to improving the working conditions of its sanitation workers and recognizing their hard work in maintaining cleanliness. This move comes as other cities, such as Gurgaon and Dwarka, are also focusing on enhancing sanitation services.BJP targets AAP over sanitation, dengueDelhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has accused the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of a drop in cleanliness levels in several colonies in south Delhi. He alleged that sanitation workers were not showing up for duty and garbage collection vehicles were only coming once or twice a week. Kapoor has written a letter to the mayor and municipal commissioner demanding an investigation. The BJP also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over rising dengue cases, accusing them of not taking action. AAP and MCD have not responded to the allegations.
