9-month-old boy admitted to hosp with dengue dies

Noida: A nine-month-old boy admitted to Child PGI with severe dengue infection died during treatment on Thursday. A resident of Ghaziabad, he was admitted to the hospital on September 22 in a serious condition. The doctors said, despite efforts, he suffered multiple organ failure and had to be put on ventilator support. The boy was undergoing treatment at Child PGI and was in a serious condition. However, the death will not be counted in GB Nagar since the family lives in Ghaziabad, said Dr Shruti Kirti Verma, district malaria officer. The boy is the second dengue patient to have died in Noida this year. On September 5, a 27-year-old woman suffering from dengue died. A homeopathic doctor, she was admitted to a private hospital in Noida. On Friday, Noida reported 12 new cases, taking the tally to 556. Ghaziabad also reported 15 new dengue cases, pushing the tally to 632. The health department in both the districts have deployed teams to check prevention measures in rural and urban areas. Along with the district malaria teams, ASHA workers have been involved to check symptomatic patients. Among the new patients in Ghaziabad, the youngest is a 13-year-old boy while the oldest is an 85-year-old man from Rajendra Nagar. Other areas where dengue cases were reported include Ghukna, Sarvodaya Nagar, Govindpuram, Indirapuram, Pratap Vihar, Arya Nagar and Vijay Nagar. The district administration will recommend compensation for the family and has instructed health authorities to conduct fever camps and screen for dengue in the area. They also urge people to seek treatment at government hospitals for fever-related symptoms.
