Water trickling from taps for wks, pipe burst adds to woes

NOIDA: Residents of several sectors in Noida and Greater Noida protested against the erratic supply of water on Sunday. They have been battling water supply shortage for a couple of weeks. A pipe burst has only added to their woes in the festive period.While residents of Greater Noida sectors Delta 1, 2, and 3 placed a lock in the water tank of Sector Eta 1 as a mark of protest, in Sector Beta 1 residents wrote to GNIDA CEO complaining of no water for the last several days.Also, two motors are defunct and water is being supplied through one functional motor in Sector Gamma 1.On Monday, a delegation of the Federation of RWAs will meet the GNIDA CEO regarding the water problem and seek a solution, said Alok Nagar, vice president of the Federation of RWAs Greater Noida.In Noida, residents of Sector 19 complained of foul-smelling and black water, while Sector 51 residents were troubled with no water supply for the past two days.RC Gupta, RWA president of Sector 19, complained of total mismanagement of the drinking water supply in Noida. Noida Authority has failed to supply clean drinking water to its residents even after over forty years of its existence. UP chief minister, local MP and MLA should take note of this and take cognitive action, he said.When contacted, RP Singh, deputy GM of water and sewer department of Noida Authority told TOI that a water pipeline burst on Friday in Sector 27 leading to a muddy and dirty water supply in some sectors. Many sectors have complained about the slow progress of tree pruning, with waste being left unattended for days. The authorities have been urged to take action and address these issues promptly.
